Trevor has compiled a list of tips to help you when choosing your special cake for that special occasion:
Trevor's Top Ten Tips!
1. Stuck for an idea as what to put on the cake? If it’s a special birthday, bring a photo of the celebration boy or girl as a child. We can scan it in on rice paper and use it as the focal point . 2. If you can’t get hold of a photo, or would like something a little different. Tell me of their special interests, like golf or shopping, and I will bring those hobbies to life in marzipan! 3. A wedding cake will be one of the most photographed items on your special day. Make sure you’ll be happy with it when you glance back at the photos in years to come. A comedy cake might be good for a laugh at the time but…. 4. Be sure of what you want. How many people will be at your special event: 10? 30? 100? I can advise you on cake sizes to ensure that you won’t be eating leftover fruit cake for months to come. 5. Find out about any food allergies before ordering a monster of a Victoria sponge. It would be disastrous to discover that the happy Anniversary Couple have a major intolerance to dairy products. 6. Great fun to order a Tardis, Dalek or Disney favourite but make sure the younger partygoers are still fans of Dr Who or the latest Big Screen favourite. Otherwise there’ll be tears before party bags and pass the parcel. 7. Allow plenty of time for The Cake Box to do its stuff. Yes, it IS possible to occasionally answer an urgent cry for help but, if you can, plan well in advance. Select your cake, tick it off your ‘to do’ list and relax. 8. Don’t be afraid to ask. What’s in it? Are there any food colourings? What’s in the icing? Do I pay more if you make 50 tea roses by hand to scatter as a garland round my wedding cake? (The answer’s YES!) Could I have the top tier in the shape of Elvis? You name it, we’ll answer it as straightforwardly and honestly as we can. 9. Beware of very different opinions about occasion cakes. You may think it’s a wonderful idea to have ostrich feathers and table confetti as decoration on a 6ft high Belgian chocolate wedding cake shaped like a swan. Your future partner may think otherwise. 10. Call The Cake Box. It’s no coincidence that a gem of a moment is anyone’s life is described as ‘the icing on the cake’. We want to help take the strain out of organising what is often a one-off event. If in doubt about anything, give us a ring and we’ll get on with that icing…
